Lip Surgery

A large number of people have relatively heavy upper lip, lower lip and sometimes both. Lip reduction is an out patient procedure done under local anesthesia. The number of cases in need of this surgery is increasing constantly. In the pre op room, marking is done to assess the amount of lip reduction. Local anesthesia infiltration is done, a wedge resection of the excess skin, mucosa and muscle is done. Absorbable sutures are used to close the wound. Ice massage is advised for 48 hours to reduce the swelling. For lip augmentation, fat can be used properly. Substances like fillers can be effectively used to highlight the margins of the lips. Fat cells are not used for this purpose because they result in a clumpy appearance when used.
